Being overweight is a problem we can solve
The proper balance that must exist between the amount of calories in the food we eat and the amount of energy needed by our body to perform all activities, will determine our proper body weight. If the calorie intake exceeds the amount of calories we use, such excess calories in the form of fat cells or adipocytes will accumulate in adipose tissue, which will cause us to gain weight. If, on the other hand, the amount of calories intake is lower than the amount of calories used, it will make our body to use those fat cells or adipocytes we have plenty in the adipose tissue, causing us to lose weight. For this reason, the best way to reduce excess weight we have is to use more energy (by performing physical activity or exercise) than the calories we eat (by acquiring healthy eating habits).
Excess weight occurs when the intake of calories is greater than the amount of energy the body uses, and is characterized by excess “energy reserves” as fat accumulated in the fatty tissues of the body.
Excess fat accumulated in our body produces insulin resistance, that is, as a person exceeds their normal weight will also be increasing the risk for Type 2 Diabetes. If we have a 10% excess weight we will be doubling our risk for Type 2 Diabetes.
If we change our currently lifestyle, adopting healthy eating habits and starting to do exercises regularly, we can start reducing our body weight to achieve our normal weight. This in turn will allow us to enjoy a healthier and happier life.
The Body Mass Index (BMI) is an extraordinary tool that will lets us know how our weight is and will let us take the necessary steps to always keep it under control. Staying at a normal weight will help us feel better about ourselves and at the same time will allow us to enjoy a healthier, productive and happy life.
